Background

Our client is a leading operator in the mining industry with a focus on attracting diverse, best-fit talent to their teams. They engaged us to assist with hiring up to 200 permanent trainees to mentor on their proprietary equipment.

The client particularly wanted to attract diverse talent and engage the next cohort of women in mining.

Our Solutions

Sourcing and Attraction

We engaged a broad range of attraction and sourcing strategies to find the best talent for these operator traineeship roles - with a focus on hiring for potential. These included:

  • Extensive job board posting
  • Database interrogation and candidate profiling
  • Targeted social media campaigns
  • Landing pages specifically housing information related to the roles and allowing direct access to job details via paid media and referral campaigns.

Assessment

The team built a bespoke Applicant Tracking System (ATS) environment which allowed flexibility to ask bespoke questions eliminating double handling and simplifying the process of recruitment.

Collaborating with our Chandler Macleod Consulting team, we assessed applicant using a numeracy and literacy comprehension test and a safety profiling assessment benchmarked against an industry norm group ensuring only best fit applicants made the next stage.

The recruitment process was supported by bespoke email automation created and sent based on progression triggers to speak up the process of completing essential steps such as pre-employment medicals, PPE size requests and onboarding saving valuable time and reducing the onboarding process for applicants.

Outcomes

In the first nine months we provided the client with more than 170 trainee employees across WA, SA, NT, QLD and NSW, increasing candidate applications substantially with a marked increase in female applicants following the targeted campaigns.

Our branded advertising reached more than 100,000 targeted candidates, assisting the communication of EVP for the client and talent pooling for future campaigns.

Time to hire was reduced dramatically by our automated systems and bespoke ATS options saving time and money.

Our client was extremely happy with the outcomes and we were delighted to be able to hire best fit candidates resulting in increased employee satisfaction.
