Position Summary
An opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented Structural Lab Technician to support both structural materials and fire safety testing within a NATA-accredited laboratory environment. This role involves conducting diverse testing activities, maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring strict adherence to quality and safety protocols, and actively contributing to the enhancement of lab processes.
The ideal candidate will have practical experience in structural or fire testing labs, a thorough understanding of testing standards, and a strong dedication to maintaining high levels of quality, safety, and compliance in laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct laboratory testing in accordance with relevant Australian Standards, including AS4040, AS1170, AS1562.1, AS1530.4, and AS1530.8.
- Prepare, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment and testing setups for structural and fire safety tests.
- Accurately record and report test results following quality management system requirements.
- Ensure compliance with NATA accreditation and workplace health and safety standards.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot laboratory equipment issues.
- Assist in developing and improving testing procedures and documentation.
- Collaborate closely with the Technical Services and Engineering teams, communicating clearly and escalating issues when necessary.
Requirements
- Certificate III or IV in Laboratory Skills, Science, or related trade qualification; or equivalent practical experience.
- Proven experience working in a fire testing laboratory environment.
- Strong understanding of fire safety testing procedures and relevant standards.
- Familiarity with workplace health and safety practices.
- Ability to work both independently under supervision and as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Competent in using hand and power tools.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Strong communication skills for reporting and documentation.
Desirable
- Experience in a NATA-accredited laboratory setting.
- Forklift licence or willingness to obtain.
- Basic knowledge of quality management systems and document control.
