About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Technical Manager – Engagement & Process Improvement
for a short-term 2-month contract.
This role will lead process optimisation, service improvement, and workforce planning initiatives across a large technical services function supporting teaching and research in a higher education institution.
A key focus of the role will be scoping future support models for schools, working closely with stakeholders, and delivering critical outputs for executive decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage with Schools and Research & Innovation teams to understand technology support requirements for teaching (e.g., digital engineering), and produce a detailed report including capability and staffing recommendations for Executive.
- Conduct a gap analysis with ICT Central Services to assess current on-the-ground support in specialist teaching/research spaces and with specialised applications; incorporate findings into the Executive report.
- Develop Position Descriptions for two School-based technical support roles (e.g., SCT), based on analysis and engagement outcomes.
- Review existing digitised business processes and make recommendations for improvement or further automation.
- Lead and embed service and process improvements across the technical services group, with a focus on standardisation, digitalisation, and operational efficiency.
- Partner with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure new processes and workforce models are effectively implemented and adopted.
- Support organisational priorities in workforce planning, staff engagement, culture-building, and professional development.
- Strong experience in process improvement, service design, and stakeholder engagement in complex environments.
- A collaborative, people-focused leadership style with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.
- Familiarity with education or research environments and technology-enabled teaching support.
- Strong writing and analytical skills, with experience producing reports and business cases for senior audiences.
- Proficiency with digital tools, including Microsoft Office and process-mapping platforms (e.g. Visio, Promapp).
- Relevant qualifications and/or equivalent experience in business operations, technical services, or process improvement.
- Working with Children Check mandatory.
