Principal Policy Advisor 

Melbourne CBD |  Government Sector |  6-Month Contract |  $87.70 – $117.36 p/h + Super | ASAP start

Are you an experienced policy professional ready to lead high-impact initiatives in the public sector? We’re seeking a dynamic and strategic Principal Policy Advisor to join a major government division on a six-month contract. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to state-wide policy development and reform that shapes early childhood education and regulatory practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead complex policy development and multifaceted projects that align with government priorities.
  • Provide clear, well-reasoned advice and innovative policy recommendations to address regulatory and legislative challenges.
  • Prepare high-quality written materials including briefs, Cabinet submissions, reports, and public-facing content.
  • Support strategic engagement at national policy forums and contribute to Victoria’s interests in early childhood policy.
  • Collaborate with legal, project, and operational teams to progress legislative reform and regulatory change.
About You
You will be a strong communicator with proven experience in policy leadership. Your skillset will include:
  • Expertise in policy analysis, strategy, and regulatory reform.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Strong written communication and the ability to produce clear, impactful documentation for a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in navigating political and organisational contexts within the public sector.
  • Leadership capabilities with experience managing and developing teams (desirable but not essential).
Ideal Qualifications & Requirements
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (policy, public administration, law or related field) are desirable.
  • Experience within state or federal government or public sector policy environments.
  • Working With Children Check (required prior to commencement).
