Lead Strategic Procurement in a High-Impact, Complex Environment
We are currently partnering with a leading public sector organisation to recruit a dynamic and experienced Head of Procurement. This is a senior leadership opportunity for a commercially astute professional to drive the organisation’s strategic sourcing and Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) framework across multiple business functions.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in procurement leadership who is passionate about delivering full contract value, reducing commercial and operational risk, and enabling innovation through strong supplier partnerships.
About the Role
As the Head of Procurement, you will act as the procurement business partner and a key liaison for internal stakeholders. Your primary focus will be to align procurement strategies with organisational goals, ensuring governance, risk mitigation, and continuous performance improvement across supplier engagements.
You will play a central role in embedding procurement best practice, enhancing stakeholder relationships, and establishing a supplier ecosystem that supports value creation, innovation, and sustainable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a strategic sourcing and SRM program that aligns with government procurement frameworks and risk policies
- Build and manage strategic supplier relationships, classification models, and treatment strategies
- Establish and monitor contractual KPIs and SLAs in line with compliance and governance standards
- Identify and mitigate financial, legal, reputational, and performance-related risks
- Champion social procurement initiatives, including the engagement of Aboriginal-owned, SME and regional suppliers
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement across the procurement function
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed SRM initiatives and improve procurement’s internal brand and effectiveness
- Lead change and foster stakeholder buy-in across the procurement transformation journey
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience in senior procurement roles within large or complex organisations
- Strong understanding of sourcing strategy, supplier segmentation, SRM, and end-to-end procurement operations
- Demonstrated ability to manage contract frameworks, negotiate high-value outcomes, and influence executive stakeholders
- Solid understanding of government procurement policies or similar regulated frameworks
- Track record of delivering commercial value, mitigating risk, and driving supplier performance
- Passion for continuous improvement and alignment with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives
- Pragmatic and forward-thinking
- Resilient, with the ability to lead under pressure and influence outcomes
- Collaborative, inclusive, and capable of fostering a positive culture
- Strong communicator with excellent stakeholder management skills
- Change-oriented with a strategic mindset
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join a high-performing procurement leadership team and shape a modern, collaborative procurement function. You’ll have the autonomy to drive strategic initiatives while building meaningful supplier relationships and influencing commercial outcomes.
