Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an experienced Governance Officer - (Level 5 Equivalent)
Position: Governance Officer - (Level 5 Equivalent)
Location: Canberra
Work Type: 3 months contract with a potential extension of 12 months (3 x 4)
Clearance: NV1
Salary Range $55 to $60/ph + super
Security Clearance: Negative Vetting (NV1) Required
About the Role
As a Governance Officer, you will play a pivotal role in providing high-quality governance and secretariat services to support the AEC’s key corporate committees, subcommittees, and working groups. Working under limited direction, you will undertake moderately complex tasks, leveraging your expertise in administrative management and committee coordination to ensure smooth operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning and scheduling of committee activities through a forward work plan and stakeholder engagement.
- Provide advice and guidance on governance and risk to enhance decision-making.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of AEC governance arrangements.
- Prepare correspondence, briefings, and reports, identifying issues and proposing innovative solutions.
- Coordinate and maintain standard operating procedures.
- Foster a high-performing team environment with a focus on quality outputs and technical proficiency.
- Build and manage key internal and external relationships to achieve outcomes.
- Make informed decisions using professional judgement in a dynamic environment.
- Support programme and project areas during electoral events, as required.
Essential Requirements
- Security Clearance: Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) and character clearance (including police check).
- Excellent organisational skills with a methodical and accurate approach.
- Experience analysing moderately complex information and providing timely, accurate advice.
- Strong ability to collaborate within a team and with stakeholders at all levels.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.
- Commitment to working harmoniously in a geographically dispersed team to support AEC’s strategic goals.
- Demonstrated personal integrity and adherence to legislative and policy frameworks.
- Australian citizenship and political neutrality.
Desirable
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Adobe Pro.
- Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, Australian electoral law and practice.
- Familiarity with, or ability to quickly acquire knowledge of, the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013.
