Financial Advisor 
Location: Canberra ACT
Work Type: S26 or non-ongoing – 12 months
Rate: $95,187 – $108,734 + Superannuation
Clearance: Baseline required

About the Role
A key government department is seeking an experienced and motivated Financial Advisor to join a finance team supporting a major operational area. This role is customer-facing and focused on delivering strategic financial advice to a range of stakeholders.
 
As part of a small, high-performing team, you will identify financial risks and opportunities, support budgeting and forecasting activities, and contribute to strategic decision-making. This role also includes team leadership and mentoring responsibilities, providing you with the opportunity to develop others while furthering your own career.
 
Key Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and timely financial advice and analysis
  • Support budget development, forecasting and performance reporting
  • Lead and mentor a small finance team, managing workflows and priorities
  • Ensure compliance with financial frameworks, policies, and regulations
  • Engage with stakeholders to resolve financial issues and improve outcomes
  • Interpret financial data to support strategic planning and project delivery
About You
You are a proactive and confident finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You can work independently, communicate clearly with a variety of stakeholders, and take ownership of financial outcomes.

  • Strong financial management and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • The ability to manage competing priorities effectively
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
  • A degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • Solid experience in financial management, preferably in the public sector
Highly Desirable:
  • Experience with financial systems such as SAP and TM1 (Cognos)
  • CPA or CAANZ membership
  • Strong Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  Eligibility Requirements
  • Australian Citizenship (mandatory)
  • Baseline Security Clearance
