Join our dynamic team within the Defence Finance Group (DFG) to support critical end-of-year processing and assist with the transition to new financial systems. Your Role
As an 171575 Financial Adviser and Financial Analyst (Level 5 or 6 Equivalent) within the Financial Accounting and Assets Directorates, you will be accountable for:
  • Providing qualitative and quantitative data analysis to support strategic management reporting.
  • Managing and implementing practical governance requirements, risk oversight, and ensuring compliance with the financial management framework.
  • Contributing to the management of the Fixed Assets Register and Inventory Holdings, including maintenance of asset classes, effective lives, additions, and disposals.
  • Supporting Defence’s external financial reporting functions, including journal preparation, reconciliations, balance sheet management, investigation of reconciling items, and financial statement analysis.
  • Liaising with diverse stakeholders, including auditors, business areas, procurement and systems specialists, contractors, and military personnel.
  • Providing sound, practical advice on technical financial accounting and asset lifecycle assurance activities, aligning with Defence’s mission and business objectives.
  • Delivering clear and consistent communication, managing expectations, and setting high performance and behavioural standards.
  • Providing leadership, guidance, and support to junior team members and the wider directorate.

Desirable Qualifications, Experience, or Training
You are a skilled finance professional with experience providing practical advice on financial accounting policy. You have led teams in implementing financial accounting controls, management reporting, and remediation activities, with a deep understanding of financial controls and testing for financial statement assurance.
 
Highly Desirable:
  • Tertiary qualifications (e.g., Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Business, or equivalent).
  • CPA/CA qualification (or working towards it).
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access).
  • Experience in a similar role within a fast-paced, complex environment.
  • Ability to analyse financial information and apply capital project financial management practices, assurance, reporting, and data analytics.
  • Stakeholder coordination and management experience.
  • Experience with financial systems such as SAP is advantageous.
