Environmental Health Officer

Position Overview

This role is responsible for making informed decisions regarding both proactive compliance programs and reactive investigations, including any necessary follow-up actions such as enforcement or rectification, in line with relevant legislation.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve a broad range of environmental and public health issues, ensuring timely and high-quality outcomes.
• Take appropriate enforcement actions in response to non-compliance, using discretion based on the situation, severity, and available legislative tools.
• Conduct routine and follow-up inspections of registered premises in accordance with established procedures.
• Manage a diverse and demanding caseload of environmental health matters simultaneously.
• Stay informed and compliant with all relevant legislation impacting the role.
• Provide technical guidance to team members, including reviewing enforcement actions and official correspondence.
• Perform duties outside standard working hours when required.

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Experience

• A Bachelor of Science in Applied Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent.
• Proven experience in delivering environmental health services, including inspections, investigations, and enforcement.
• Strong knowledge and practical application of public and environmental health legislation, policies, and guidelines.
