We’re seeking a technically capable engineer to support the integration and optimisation of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) as part of the broader transition to a Distribution System Operator (DSO) model. The role focuses on monitoring DER systems, resolving technical issues, and enhancing operational performance across multiple electricity networks.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide technical support for DER performance issues, including customer escalations and formal complaints.
- Monitor, operate, and optimise DER systems, dynamic/static operating envelopes, and control schemes.
- Identify and address systemic DER issues; work closely with internal teams and inverter manufacturers to implement solutions.
- Lead the development of operational procedures, work instructions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support forecasting, scenario planning, and mitigation strategies to maintain system security and reliability.
- Collaborate with control room staff during live system events and provide post-incident technical analysis.
To be successful in this role, you’ll bring proven experience in the energy sector, ideally with hands-on exposure to DER systems, network operations, or emerging grid technologies. You’ll need:
- A degree or diploma in Electrical, Communications or Software Engineering.
- Deep understanding of DER technical standards and protocols (e.g. AS4777, CSIP-AUS).
- Strong problem-solving and data analysis skills.
- Ability to engage effectively with engineers, operations teams, and external stakeholders.
- Experience writing technical procedures, reports, and improvement documentation.
