We are seeking an experienced Business and Governance Manager to join the Strategic Communications Unit for a government department based in West Perth This vital role provides strategic leadership across the unit’s financial management, governance, and business processes — supporting major government campaigns and key communication priorities.

As part of a fast-paced, dynamic team, you’ll work directly with senior leaders to manage budgets, develop business cases, oversee compliance, and improve systems to enhance operational efficiency.

This role is initially offered on a 3-month contract and sits at a Level 7.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee budget planning, financial monitoring, and reporting across the unit and major communication projects.
  • Lead business improvement initiatives and develop tools and processes that drive team productivity.
  • Provide high-level strategic advice to Directors on governance, risk, and compliance matters.
  • Coordinate preparation of business cases, memos, and responses to Parliamentary Questions and Budget Estimates.
  • Manage HR and supplier contracts, ensuring adherence to public sector standards and financial policy.
  • Foster strong cross-agency relationships and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

You will bring:
  • Proven experience providing financial and governance advice to senior executives.
  • Strong project management skills, with a track record of delivering improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills — written and verbal — with the ability to prepare high-quality briefings and reports.
  • A sound understanding of public sector compliance and financial frameworks.
