About the Team
This Assistant Director opportunity sits within a dynamic division that supports the clean energy transition through major policy and program initiatives. Areas of focus include:
- Renewable energy planning and approvals
- First Nations clean energy strategies
- Community energy programs
- Supply chain development
- Market reform and legislative design
- Lead or coordinate high-level research and analysis to inform strategic decisions
- Develop and deliver policy advice, briefings and Cabinet submissions
- Engage with senior stakeholders across government, industry and the community
- Oversee projects and programs, applying sound project and risk management
- Provide team leadership, mentoring and performance development
- Ensure quality assurance in procurement, regulatory advice, and legislative interpretation

- Strong policy, program or regulatory experience, ideally in energy, environment or infrastructure
- Proven ability to distill complex issues into clear, actionable advice for senior audiences
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- A proactive and strategic mindset with strong judgement
- Experience managing people and fostering high-performing teams
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with a collaborative and respectful approach
- Background or strong interest in energy markets, renewables, electricity policy or infrastructure
- Experience with government processes, including Cabinet submissions and intergovernmental collaboration
Eligibility
This position requires an active or the ability to obtain Baseline security clearance. Australian citizenship is required.
