About the Client:

Government department tasked with making life easier, accessible, and equitable for thousands of individuals and families across Australia. Currently seeking for a talented Actuary Lead to join their busy team for a casual 12 months temporary assignment.


About the Role

As an Actuary Lead, you will provide ongoing monitoring and reporting on the Agency performance against key metrics both externally and to the board and its subcommittees. You will have delegated authority and responsibility to resolve issues and risks across wide-ranging activities of substantial depth involving significant detail. In addition, your key duties are as follows:

  • Provide statistical and actuarial advice.
  • Oversight and management of reporting, analysis and data management activities as required, including regular perfonnance monitoring.
  • Design actuarial, statistical and mathematical models to undertake analytical work that respond to business issues, including actuarial monitoring and analyses, data tabulations, scheme projects and cost benefit analyses.
  • Undertake ad hoc modelling requests and report production.
  • Effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) and present the outcomes of work undertaken, tailored to context.

 
About You

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Relevant academic qualifications including tertiary qualifications in Actuarial Studies or Mathematics/Statistics.  Only candidates with FIAA qualification will be considered.
  • Proficiency in R ncludingClean/transform/summarise large data sets (e.g. data.table, dplyr), Functional programming practices, Train/evaluate/infer machine learning models (e.g. xgboost)
  • Proficiency in SQL
  • Some experience with version control systems, i.e. git
  • Experience building statistical or machine learning models
  • Experience leading a team / delegating tasks
  • Experience with agile
  • Package development in R (devtools, roxygen2) and Dashboard development in R (shiny)
