About the Client:

Government department tasked with making life easier, accessible, and equitable for thousands of individuals and families across Australia. Currently seeking for a talented Actuarial Manager to join their busy team for a casual 12 months temporary assignment.


About the Role

As an Actuarial Manager, you will provide ongoing monitoring and reporting on the Agency performance against key metrics both externally and to the board and its subcommittees. You will have delegated authority and responsibility to resolve issues and risks across wide-ranging activities of substantial depth involving significant detail. In addition, your key duties are as follows:

  • Apply actuarial and insurance-based techniques to the projection of costs.
  • Satisfy ad hoc requests for modelling and potential interpretations of the legislation.
  • Develop and update the actuarial valuation model and associated monitoring and management reports.
  • Evaluate and analyse policy decisions.
  • Provide statistical and actuarial advice to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Perform reporting, analysis and data management activities as required.
  • Extract data from Information Systems and working on data linkage, data cleaning and quality analysis.
  • Provide insights to Agency’s corporate priorities, highlighting actionable insights based on statistical results

 
About You

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Proven experience in a similar actuarial role, ideally in a leadership capacity
  • Proficient in R, some experience of GLMs or GBMs, excellent numerical ability, problem-solving aptitude, and proficiency in statistical modelling
  • Proficient SQL / SAS programming
  • Relevant academic qualifications including tertiary qualifications in Actuarial Studies or Mathematics/Statistics, progressing towards Associate and/or Fellowship qualifications
  • Ability to understand and formulate policies, and good communication skills
