A great opportunity for an experienced and highly skilled Laboratory Manager to oversee the daily operations of a leading laboratory. This role requires a strong technical background and leadership ability to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for managing laboratory staff, coordinating testing activities, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring quality standards and safety protocols are followed.
As the Laboratory Manager, your expertise will play a key role in ensuring efficient and accurate laboratory processes, contributing to continuous improvement and maintaining the laboratory’s accreditation status. You will work closely with the Technical Services and Quality teams, collaborating to meet the evolving needs of the industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform laboratory procedures in strict compliance with relevant Australian Standards (AS4040, AS 1170, AS 1562.1, AS 1530.4, and AS 1530.8) and the Building Code of Australia.
- Lead and manage laboratory operations, ensuring all processes meet the required quality and regulatory standards.
- Coordinate and supervise testing activities, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
- Manage and report test results, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to quality system policies.
- Foster positive relationships with clients, technical services, and engineering teams, providing effective communication and support.
- Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to developing new procedures and test methods.
- Ensure laboratory safety protocols are followed, maintaining compliance with Workplace Health and Safety standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, working with the Quality Manager to implement necessary policy or procedural changes.
About You:
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science; alternatively, trade qualifications, Certificate IV in Laboratory Work, or equivalent qualifications.
- Strong understanding of NATA accreditation standards and Quality Management Systems, including document control and auditing.
- Proven ability to manage accredited lab operations with hands-on experience in testing and analytical procedures.
- Excellent organisational and leadership skills, with the ability to resolve technical and operational challenges.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of preparing and presenting technical reports.
- Competency in using hand and power tools, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety practices, risk management, and compliance.
Highly Desirable:
- Forklift licence, gantry crane operation experience, and basic dogging skills.
