Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS5 Youth Learning and Development Support Officer a contract until June 2022.

Position Overview

Defence is committed to providing a range of safe, challenging, high quality and contemporary youth engagement and development activities. The Directorate Youth within the Joint Support Services Division is responsible for the implementation of the Defence Youth Safety Framework including governance policies and training and education packages for the Australian Defence Force and the Australian Defence Force Cadets (ADF Cadets).

For roles within the Directorate Youth, a willingness to cultivate strong working relations; the modeling of Defence's Values in both words and actions; and an ability to work well under pressure is essential.

The Department of Defence is seeking an APS5 Youth Learning and Development Support Officer with education and training experience to work within the Directorate Youth team. The successful candidate will be part of a small but dynamic team and be required to work with a diverse workforce comprising civilian, military and contractor personnel as well as staff dispersed around the country in key population centres. The Directorate Youth provides a supportive environment where team members are given the opportunity to extend themselves by undertaking higher duties at the APS 6 level (in the absence of a Youth Training Officer) and through the provision of learning opportunities.


  • Contribute to the development, delivery, evaluation and management of training programs (including elearning).
  • Assist in the preparation of briefing material and analytical reports for Director Youth and executive management.
  • Engage with internal and external learning and development professionals.
  • Assist in the development of information packages and other training, policy and communications products in consultation with stakeholders.
  • Interpret and apply learning and development policies and procedures.
  • Undertake Learning Management Systems testing.
  • Work collaboratively in a team-based environment actively participating in and contributing to team meetings and exchange information to support the work area and team objectives.

Qualifications / Skills / Experience Requirements

  • Experience in a youth policy and program management related role will be considered highly desirable. Significant experience in training management and policy development is highly desirable.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will be required to have a Baseline clearance.
