Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a motivated and enthusiastic WHS Adviser for Non-ongoing, Full-Time position.

About the Role:

The WHS Adviser will oversee the day to day operational aspects of the WHS function, provide advice to staff and managers and promote the implementation of health, safety and wellbeing initiatives. The WHS Adviser will also contribute to the implementation of the department's Work Health and Safety Management System, including reviewing policies and procedures

Role details

In this role you will be required to perform duties in accordance with the APS Values and Code of Conduct; and

  • Oversee the operational WHS functions including the COVID-19 response, workstation assessments, hazard inspections and first aid.
  • Provide expert advice and tailored responses to work health and safety queries including strategic advice where appropriate.
  • Act as the Secretariat for the department's WHS Committee.
  • Undertake incident report management, including investigations where required, and hazard inspections.
  • Contribute to the identification and implementation of system and process improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the departments' Work Health and Safety Management System including review of WHS policies guidelines and procedures

Candidate profile

Technical knowledge

  • Knowledge of the WHS legislative framework and experience in interpreting and applying this in a work environment. A certificate IV in Work Health and Safety is desirable.

  • Build and manage effective partnerships that engage stakeholders in understanding the issues, identifying innovative solutions and in supporting implementation.


  • Communicate with influence both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner.
