Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS 6 WHS Adviser on a contract for 12 months/ Ongoing and Non-ongoing, Full-Time.

About the Role:

The WHS team are looking for candidates for the APS 6 WHS Adviser position. The position is being offered for a non-ongoing period of 12 months; however an ongoing vacancy does exist.

The WHS Adviser is responsible for contributing to the development and implementation of the Department's Work Health and Safety Management System, including reviewing policies and procedures, provision of advice and the promotion and implementation of health, safety and wellbeing initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In this role you will be required to perform duties in accordance with the APS Values and Code of Conduct; and
  • Contribute to the establishment and implementation of the departments' Work Health and Safety Management System including review of WHS policies guidelines and procedures.
  • In accordance with the WHS legislative framework, provide expert advice and tailored responses to work health and safety queries including strategic advice where appropriate.
  • Take a lead role in developing the recommended schedule of initiatives for Healthy Living Month and Safe Work Month.
  • Contribute to the identification and implementation of system and process improvement initiatives.
  • Act as the Secretariat for the department's WHS Committee.
  • Undertake incident report management and hazard inspections.
  • Guide the coordination of workstation assessments and WHS training.
  • Prepare draft reports, briefing material and correspondence.

Skills & Experience:

  • Technical knowledge
    • Knowledge of the WHS legislative framework and experience in interpreting and applying this in a work environment. A certificate IV in Work Health and Safety is desirable.
  • Stakeholder engagement/management
    • Build and manage effective partnerships that engage stakeholders in understanding the issues, identifying innovative solutions and in supporting implementation.

    • Communicate with influence both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner.

    • Show integrity and respect for others. Display drive and resilience, and adopt a positive approach.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will be required to have a Baseline security clearance.
