Chandler Macleod are delighted to be partnering exclusively with BHP Nickel West in the recruitment of a vacation student, initially on a 3 month basis over the university summer break.

About the Role

This is a great opportunity for a proactive, dynamic and highly astute students with a professional outlook to join our Health Safety, Environment and Communities team in Perth in developing legal registers and mapping obligations against our existing risk bow ties, procedures and training for the new The Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA).

Reporting directly to HSE Principal responsible for implementing the changes in legislation into the company developing the new Health Safety and Environment Management System.

This role is an excellent vacation paid work experience opportunity, available over the summer university break - approximately 3 months.

In this role you will:

Provide a key guidance on the implementation of Workplace Safety Harmonisation through:

  • Development of Legal Registers to track obligations from the legislation
  • Mapping the Registers against our current safety risk management bow ties, procedures and training
  • Developing actions to assist subject matter experts in closing the gaps
  • This work is not part of the legal team, and is not supervised by a lawyer, as it is the development of a tool to assist implementation of new laws, not delivering legal advice


About You

To be a success in the role you will require:

  • Studying towards a tertiary qualification in Law, Commerce or other HSEC discipline
  • Have the following skills:
    o Attention to detail
    o Ability to work comfortably with legislation and large amounts of procedural documents
    o Communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
    o Problem solving
