Position title: Tides and Geodetic Geospatial System Analyst
Contract Estimation Duration: 6 Months initially with a possibility of extension(s)
Company Type / Size: Government - Defence - baseline clearance an advantage
Location: Wollongong - Sydney - NSW
Salary / Rate: APS 5 / 6 (DOE)
Purpose of this position:
The Geospatial Analyst will be accountable for organising their workflow, making decisions within defined parameters relating to their area of responsibility and will seek guidance when required.
The Geospatial Analyst will be required to share information, monitor work practices, set work priorities and develop local procedures.
The Geospatial Analyst may be required to communicate with, respond and provide advice to a range of stakeholders on complex operational and administrative issues to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.

General Requirements:

  • Provide professional assistance in the investigation of geodetic phenomena, extraction and compilation of geodetic information, and participate in maintenance and development of Tides Information System.
  • Undertake complex calculations on, and manipulation of geodetic data under general direction from supervisor, making decisions within defined parameters.
  • Contribute new ideas and identify opportunities to improve the work of the team.
  • Monitor task progress against performance expectation to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Apply knowledge and experience of geospatial analysis information and products to make recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Listen to stakeholders and understand the relationships between business priorities and tasks.
  • Build and sustain effective relationships with team members and actively participate in teamwork and group activities.
  • Interpret and comply with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks and international and national standards.
  • Prioritise workload and monitor task progress in a dynamic and fast-paced environment to meet business objectives.

    Technical Scope:
    Maintain survey marks and supporting metadata within the Tides Information System (TIS) (ongoing)
  • Provide geodetic data in support of HIPP activities (ongoing)
  • Compile data packs for provision to contractor undertaking HIPP survey tasks (as per survey schedule).
  • Maintain horizontal datum transformation files for use in software
  • Documented work procedures to conduct the above-mentioned activities (continual improvement)
    Education:
    Essential -
  • Working knowledge of Land Surveying or a strong mathematics background.
  • Experience in geospatial data management and analysis of surveying information.
    Desirable -
  • Experience with geodetic data processing or tidal height data systems.
  • Experience in ESRI GIS software suite.
