Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a Technical Writer on a contract for 6 Months, with potential extension.

Position Overview

Our Client is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to support an active program of work. Our Client is developing an online tool, known as the Self Service Platform (SSP). The SSP provides a web hosted tool for political parties, citizens and staff to conduct business or research regarding the legislated requirements for the client to provide registration and funding disclosure transparency of political parties. This is a significant structural change as the client is moving away from manually receiving, processing and distributing the information. The Technical Writer's primary role is to determine the clearest and most logical way to present information and instructions for greatest reader comprehension and writes and edits technical information accordingly. Responsible for producing high quality documentation, the key deliverables are writing easy to understand user interface text, user guides, online help text and short videos that are appropriate for the audience and contributes to the overall success of our products for both internal and external stakeholders.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identify what the internal & external stakeholders need to know and do differently in order to implement the required changes in how they conduct business with the client.
  • Research, write, edit and proofread technical data.
  • Create, maintain and update user guides, training manuals, procedures and other documents.
  • Follow style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations per client's policy.
  • Commission graphics and illustrations to elaborate on or complement technical writing.
  • Review, revise, modify or edit documents prepared by others.
  • Creates, adapts and follows project schedules and deadlines.
  • Work with the communications team, the national training and education unit and the technical writers to develop the necessary products and tools to ensure the changes are implemented effectively.
  • Identify risks, benefits and measures to ensure realisation.
  • Other duties as directed.

Our Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Proven ability to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences.
  • Ability to deliver high quality documentation paying attention to detail.
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex concepts and make them easily understandable in text and illustrations.
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Basic familiarity with the SDLC and software development.
  • Desirable - experience working with training and Learning Management Systems (LMS) to develop documentation that results in both face-to-face and e-Learning modules.
