We are seeking experienced applicants with previous offshore or onshore wind projects and who are interested in using their skills to help build an establish the Australian offshore wind industry.

The role is located in the Department of Industry, Science, and Resources. This role focuses on the licensing of offshore renewables projects and transmission infrastructure in Commonwealth waters.

You will be responsible for providing advice and recommendations to the Minister for Climate Change and Energy on licence applications and administering the licensing scheme including monitoring licence compliance and maintaining a register of licences.

What you will need:
  1. Specialist technical skills and knowledge in one or more key areas including:
    • Structural, mechanical and/or electrical engineering with a focus on offshore wind or other large scale onshore renewable energy technologies.
    • Project management of offshore wind or other large scale offshore or onshore renewable energy developments including planning, construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance and/or decommissioning.
    • Technical standards for the design, operation and maintenance of renewable energy generation and transmission infrastructure.
    • Commercial structures and financing of offshore wind or other large scale offshore or onshore renewable energy developments.
    • Regulatory approvals associated with offshore wind or other large scale offshore or onshore renewable energy developments.
  2. Relevant tertiary qualifications in disciplines such as project management, engineering, economics or accounting.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams and identify issues relevant across all facets of project development and delivery.
  4. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) as well as a proven ability to lead projects, as well as work within a team, and manage/ mentor/ supervise /develop staff or team members.
  5. Demonstrated ability and experience in interpreting and applying legislation, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing expert advice to decision makers.
  6. Must be an Australian citizen 
  7. This position requires a National Police Clearance and a Baseline Security clearance 
What you will do:

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide high quality written advice on industry applications that relate to Offshore Electricity Infrastructure including the granting of feasibility, commercial, research and demonstration, and transmission and infrastructure licences.
  • Undertake ongoing compliance activities in relation to licences and provide advice to the Registrar and Minister in relation to any actions required.
  • Support the relevant NOPTA teams and the Registrar in the ongoing operation of the regulatory regime.
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders within Government and industry on regulatory matters.
