Role Summary
The primary purpose of the Technical Officer – Scientific is to provide a range of services covering operational, analytical activities to the Power Station Scientific Services team. They will be required to provide a professional service in the chemical field by providing expertise aimed at delivering high quality results to both power station customers and other sections in order to meet organisational objectives.

Responsibilities and Key Deliverables
  • Operate and maintain the water treatment and chemistry plant including clarification, demineralising, condensate polishing, condensate; prefilter, effluent treatment and cooling water program
  • Manage water condition monitoring equipment, including performing calibration and minor running repairs
  • Provide a safe environment for Loy Yang staff by acting as a reference point for hazardous materials management, risk assessments, providing expert chemistry technical advice when requested
  • Demonstrate commitment toward OH&S and risk management issues in a heavy industrial environment, together with a commitment to improving workplace health and safety
  • Perform the full extent of the Scientific Services functions, such as daily and periodical routines, water treatment plant operation, chemical Deliveries, confined space gas testing.
 
To be successful in this role:
  • Chemistry/water treatment experience, ideally in a power station or heavy industry environment
  • Problem solving skills to work through complex problems and take action to resolve
  • Proven ability to communicate with all stakeholders including operations, maintenance and engineering,
  • Ability to learn on the job and work autonomously
  • Experience using laboratory equipment, online quality monitoring and performing atmospheric gas testing
  • Desirable; Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent experience and informal training
