Overview

Provide specialist engineering services to support the design, delivery, operations, maintenance and refurbishment of electrical and mechanical control systems, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and electronic tolling systems for tunnels and motorways managed by the Dept and the private motorway companies.  
 
Key Accountabilities
  • Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) advice for electrical and mechanical control systems to the project teams.
  • Support the development of motorway projects technical criteria, specifications and KPIs for systems performance and reliability by identification and evaluation of advanced and emerging technologies to ensure consistency with standards.
  • Review design and test specification documentation to identify potential issues and sources of unreliability in systems under development by analysing faults, processes, and assessing potential mitigations. Participate in evaluation and testing of new equipment and subsystems proposed for use in the Motorways and Tunnel systems.
  • Support interoperability of the various motorway systems and interfaces between motorways’ control systems and TMC central systems.
  • Review engineering and technical design documentation, procurement documents, inspection and test plans, and independent certification documentation.
  • Provide project management services for the nominated projects to ensure that the Motorway and Tunnel systems are delivered and maintained as specified to meet business objectives.
  • Develop quality processes and procedures focusing on ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) systems implementation requirements, and conformance to established IT and OT procedures and standards including/focusing on cybersecurity.
  • Ensuring the electrical and mechanical control systems are delivered using the Systems Engineering processes defined within Government standards.
  • Provide system reviews ensuring the systems safety assurance functional aspects are appropriately applied and identify areas of concerns for appropriate SME review.
 
Experience Required
  • Strong experience in delivery of Electrical and Control systems (ITS system preferred) for complex multi-disciplinary projects and preferably road tunnel projects. 
  • Sound knowledge of systems engineering processes and application to the design, construction and operation of complex infrastructure.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive and collaborative client relationships and ensure the delivery of a consistent, efficient and high-quality service.
  • Strong experience in project development and/or implementation management of road, bridge and / or traffic infrastructure construction or maintenance projects, including contract management or project development, environmental planning and assessment processes and community / stakeholder involvement strategies.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in the application of Quality Assurance systems and WHS (workplace health and safety), risk and environmental management strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of technical domains related to the implementation of control systems like PLC programming, communications network, and cyber-security within Operational Technology (OT) domain.
  • A four-year engineering degree in an Electrical or Computer Systems or other relevant discipline from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Can demonstrate a broader understanding of the control systems, M&E and ITS aspects of a typical Motorway or Tunnel.
