Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a Support Officer on a contract until 28/03/2022 with potential extension of 2 months.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Seafarer Certification Coordinator (Canberra), the Support Officer will be responsible for providing administrative support and first level of governance associated with the issue of certification to seafarers in accordance with the Marine Orders 70 series and Marine Order 505.

Pre-requisites required:

People who are successful in this position must have the following pre-requisites:

  • Ability to use Microsoft suite of office applications
  • Working knowledge of computerised records management systems (preferably HPRM)
  • Proven experience within an administrative support function.
  • Strong numerical, verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated aptitude for communicating information to a wide audience.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret, analyse and communicate evidence-based conclusions.

Major areas of Responsibility:

  • Enter data into the Certification and Pilotage System (CPS) and Customer Relations Management (CRM) system for international (STCW) and domestic (near coastal) applications; conduct initial and qualifying sea service assessments; maintain records in accordance with client policy; print documents & seafarer certificates; assist with immigration assessments, and process applications leading to the issue of certificates and/or letters of eligibility.
  • Complete verifications of certificates of competency issued by department or by overseas Administrations.
  • Authorise near coastal certificates of competency and renewals, as directed.
  • Maintain an understanding and knowledge of relevant Marine Orders (70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 76 & 505), webpages, Seafarer Certification Service (SCS) procedures and Qualification Instructions (QIs).
  • Provide assistance and advice, both verbally and in the written word, to seafarers and stakeholders who are seeking an international (STCW) and/or domestic (near coastal) certificate.
  • Propose, plan and execute ideas for continuous improvement and change management.
  • When required assist the SCS staff in other regional offices, Canberra and Coffs Harbour.
  • Participate and assist in SCS meetings by attendance, act as chair, record and archive minutes.
