Chandler Macleod is currently recruiting for an experienced Strategic Communications Leader to join a leading Federal Government agency. This is an immediate start with a contract term of 6 months with the potential to extend beyond this date.

Based in Pyrmont, this agency leads and co-ordinates the online safety efforts across Commonwealth departments, authorities and agencies and engages with key online safety stakeholders. It has a broad remit which includes administering complaint schemes and the creation of audience-specific content and programs to help educate all Australians about online safety.

Key Accountabilities:
As the Strategic Communications leader, you will serve as Section Manager of a small high performing team of media and social media specialists.

  • You will be responsible for driving and implementing the media strategy, building media relations, overseeing production of high quality media, speech and communications content and will drive the process of creating and responding to media and public affairs opportunities.
  • You will provide strategic, timely and tailored advice to the Commissioner and other leaders and designated spokespeople for agency.
  • You will be called upon to further hone the proactive media and communication strategy, focusing on effective day to day implementation including active issues management.
  • You will demonstrate strong judgement, government nous and experience, expertise in precision messaging whilst demonstrating creativity and innovation in execution across all areas of your work. This includes the production of high-quality strategic communications plans for complex and nuanced issue areas, tailored communication products such as speeches, op ed's, blogs and media releases.
  • You will proactively manage all of the communication channels including the measurement and evaluation of strategic communications.
  • You will also be responsible for supporting internal communications planning and implementation.

The Ideal Candidate:

Our ideal candidate is a passionate, dynamic and experienced media and communications professional with a deep knowledge of media and editorial channels and a proven track record in delivering high level strategic advice.

You will have strong background in working in or with government - ideally as a press secretary or media advisor, and be able to represent the communications interests across government.
You will highly adaptable, creative, passionate about helping Australians and thrive in fast paced and high pressured environments. You will be able to grasp nuanced and complex issue areas and have some background in technology policy and online safety.
