Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a Senior Project Officer on a contract for 10 months with potential extension.

About the Role:

In accordance with the principles of workplace diversity, Workplace Health and Safety, participative work practices and values, and under limited supervision and within the standards for positions at this level, an APS6 Officer is responsible to the Assistant Director for these duties:

  • Undertake administrative responsibilities for Outreach Program Management project including briefings and reporting to support the Assistant Director, NOPM and associated responsible officers to meet project delivery requirements including:
    • Project, committee and team meeting responsibilities to support the Assistant Director, NOPM and responsible officers as required, appropriate to the needs of Open Arms Outreach Program Management initiatives;
    • The development and writing of project briefs, executive briefs plus policies and procedures to support responsible officers under the direction of the Assistant Director, NOPM;
    • Update and coordinate file management for project documentation and supporting information to support responsible officers under the direction of the Assistant Director, NOPM to ensure efficient and effective project outcomes for the Outreach Program Management project; and
    • Facilitate relevant professional development programs for responsible officers under the direction of the Assistant Director, NOPM based on the needs of the relevant branch business priorities and in accordance with identified professional development requirements.
  • Support all program, & project quality assurance activities which may include file audits, project reviews and assessment reports, plus quality assurance reviews for the Outreach Program Management project;
  • Be responsible for the correct administration of the Outreach Program and Outreach Program Management project, in consultation with the Assistant Director, NOPM and MSHP and OPEN ARMS responsible officers as necessary.
  • Actively contribute to Outreach Program Management, policies and procedures, research initiatives and Quality Assurance activities as required:
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of policies and procedures and to the implementation of related practices;
  • With support of the Assistant Director, NOPM provide oversight of Quality Assurance issues related to the Outreach Program Management project and related programs and project; and
  • Undertake coordination of, and actively contribute to, relevant research projects being undertaken across MSHP and OPEN ARMS as requested by the Assistant Director, NOPM.
  • As a member of the National Outreach Program Management team, provide support plus agreed contributions to the Clinical Programs & Policy section and act for the Assistant Director, NOPM as required;
  • Represent the team and/or section at stakeholder events, community development and related activities, and undertake other duties in consultation with the Assistant Director, NOPM as required; and
  • Demonstrate behaviours and work place practices in line with policies of OH&S, Workplace Diversity and the Australian Public Service values, Employment Principles and Code of Conduct


  • Highly effective communications and interpersonal skills
  • Time management and coordination capability with relevant experience
  • Experience in government writing e.g. briefs, submissions and reports
  • Experience with the Microsoft Suite of products including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience in project support and coordination


  • Experience with Microsoft Access or similar database platforms
  • Experience with program management

Some experience in program & process design would be advantageous
