Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a Senior Project Officer on a contract for 12 months with potential extension.

Position Overview

The Programme is seeking a Senior Project Officer to directly support the Project Manager in the delivery of a project within the programme. The Senior Project Officer will be required to assist the Project Manager in the day-to-day management of risks and issues, stakeholder engagement and management, project reporting and control, and change management.

The successful candidates will have a can do attitude to problem solving and will be keen to undertake a wide range of activities as they arise. The Senior Project Officer may also work at the Programme level to support a range of multi-disciplinary teams, to ensure alignment to a common set of outcomes. They will develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, set work priorities, and provide advice and support to ensure the consistent delivery of project management outputs and artefacts.

Key Tasks/Duties

  • manage and coordinate key activities and work packages of the project
  • develop and manage project plans, registers and schedules in accordance with the agency's project management framework
  • contribute to the development of team objectives for short term tasks and strategic planning for longer-term initiatives
  • support and mentor staff, including coaching and training to build knowledge and capability
  • provide specialist advice to staff and stakeholders
  • perform independent research work and analysis including the preparation of draft reports on relevant project activities
  • coordinate regular project reporting including status updates and exception reports
  • prepare draft written material including business cases, plans, executive briefs and corporate documentation
  • monitor project budgets, review and report on expenditure and assist with procurement and contract management
  • identify and assist with the management of project risks, issues, dependencies and benefits
  • contribute to project quality management to ensure that project deliverables are fit for purpose and meet client needs
  • contribute and support the development and implementation of improvements and best practice in processes and procedures
  • develop and support stakeholder relationships to deliver projects
  • represent the team or work area in a range of forums, including conferences, meetings and workshops

Skill and Experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of project and programme management frameworks, tools and methodologies
  • Experience in the development and management of project plans, registers, schedules and reports within in a complex project or programme environment
  • Experience in the development of written materials including progress reports, business cases, plans, executive briefs and corporate documentation
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and support of internal and external stakeholder relationships in a project and programme environment
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organise and prioritise work in the context of competing priorities
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in the use of Microsoft products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and project management tools.

Mandatory Criteria

  • Minimum of 5 years project management / co-ordination experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain baseline security clearance
