Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a Senior Officer External Relations on a contract for 9 months.

Position Overview

The department is looking for a motivated, experienced and creative individual to fill the role of Senior Officer Communications who will have the following skills:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in a communication, public relations or a journalism discipline or equivalent experience;
  • Significant experience working in strategic communications, community consultation, and media
  • Event-management experience
  • Highly developed written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated experience of the internal and external stakeholder engagement including in dealing with relevant partners across multiple Government agencies
  • Understanding of the contemporary and mainstream media and social media environment;
  • Some experience with video editing, ADOBE creative suite, web applications and content management systems is also desirable.

Major areas of Responsibility

The Senior Officer Communications (Policy and Regulation) is responsible for:

  • Developing strong and productive working relationships with the department business areas to enhance strategic communications planning
  • Providing advice and supporting communications and consultation activities through digital and social channels and mainstream media
  • Creating engaging content, meeting Plain English and accessibility requirements to support policy development, industry regulation and international engagement across industry
  • Planning and implementing event and sponsorship opportunities in line with organisational policy and procedure
  • Managing and supporting media engagement to promote the department initiatives and protect the organisation's reputation
  • Effectively liaising with other relevant government agencies including for clearance of external and media content
  • Using data to evaluate and report on the effectiveness of communications activities.
  • Provide account management support and contribute to team outcomes by:
  • Demonstrating the ability to work in a high tempo environment, use initiative and be adaptable
  • Working flexibly, independently and collaboratively to resolve issues and deliver quality outcomes
  • Acting decisively and using professional judgement to support the department's objectives
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of standard operating procedures
  • Providing support for out-of-hours media enquiries, when necessary, as part of an emergency on-call roster.
