We are currently seeking Senior Media & Communications Advisor for a local Government agency.

The Senior Media & Communications Advisor provides high level media and communications advice and develops and delivers proactive communications and media plans. This position is part of a team of professionals who promote the City, protect its reputation and ensure its excellent work is communicated to internal and external stakeholders. This role identifies, pursues and responds to media opportunities and requests, developing content for media, the web, social media channels, industry engagement activities and other collateral, while developing a forward program of media and communications activities

Hours: Hours of work will generally be between 8.00am and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, working a minimum of seventy six (76) hours per fortnight, as negotiated

Key responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with senior colleagues within the Unit to protect and enhance the City's reputation and image.
  • Be a leader within the corporate communications service encompassing external and internal stakeholder communications.
  • Develop and implement communications within a defined portfolio targeted to internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of the City's Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework documents.
  • Liaise with all Alliances and Service Units of the City to identify communication needs, develop appropriate plans and provide strategic communications services and advice as required.
  • Ensure the brand identity of the City is consistently maintained and integrated across all communications.
  • Contribute to the Citys publications through quality, timely and relevant content.
  • Support the development of key strategic City documents including the Strategic Community Plan and Corporate Busines Plan.


Partnerships

  • Undertake a proactive approach to external communications and relationship building with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure a collaborative and integrated approach to the work of the organisation.
  • Establish and maintain strong networks with key external stakeholders to protect and enhance the reputation of the City.
  • Financial and Business Management
  • Regularly review outputs to increase efficiencies and improve service delivery through operational improvements.
  • Review and suggest improvements to operational procedures, processes and programs of the Media & Communications team.


Media

  • Provide high quality strategic media advice to the Lord Mayor, Chief Executive Officer, Alliance Manager Corporate Communications and other key internal stakeholders as required.
  • Develop highly effective working relationships with counterparts in key State Government, commercial and not-for-profit agencies to ensure collaboration wherever possible on issues of shared interest. This includes providing intelligence and advice to these stakeholders as required.
  • Manage appropriate media tracking and analysis mechanisms.
  • Develop and manage monthly media reports for Council, the Chief Executive Officer, General Managers and Managers to communicate the City's media positions and return on investment.
  • Provide media direction and support to the Executive Leadership Team, Managers and all Units within the City.
  • Embed media management strategies in relevant City project plans, initiatives, issues and topics of interest to ensure


Experience Required

  • High level working knowledge of best practice, contemporary communications, crisis communications and media utilising bought, owned and earned media channels.
  • High level awareness of political, economic, social and community issues relevant to the organisation and local government.
  • High level verbal and written communication skills that can be applied across a range of traditional and contemporary channels including media releases, statements, key messages, communication planning and digital channels.
  • Ability to provide strategic media and communications advice at the highest levels of an organisation.
  • Extensive experience in a senior communications media, journalism or communications role within in a high profile and politically charged organisation.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in journalism, mass communications or equivalent and/or relevant experience.


Possession of, or the ability to acquire, a satisfactory National Police Clearance Certificate.
