Chandler Macleod are very proud to be supporting Fortescue Metals Group with sourcing an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with a strong processing background for ore body characterisation and process optimisation their Cloudbreak site.
The role of the Senior Mechanical Engineer is to provide technical support using initiatives and applying engineering techniques, data analysis, improvement projects and defect elimination for the operational Ore Processing Facility - Cloudbreak. Your role is to also lead a small team of mechanical engineers to manage their day to day work and provide ad hoc supervision to the condition monitoring/lubrication team/department superintendent.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Maintain focus on team objectives and provide technical/problem solving guidance to engineers
  • Provide ad hoc engineering and reliability superintendent coverage for weekends
  • Performance manage delegates and promote good team culture
  • Liaison with relevant departments to provide technical solutions
  • Manage the development and execution of operational and capital projects
  • Complete Root Cause Analysis for plant downtime events
  • Ensure correct application of Health & Safety standards including Change Management
  • Monitor quality assurance of critical processes
  • Achieve targets set for defined sections of area budgets

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Minimum 5+ years fixed plant experience in an engineering and/or projects role
  • Tertiary Qualification in Mechanical Engineering
  • Mining experience in hard rock applications
  • Prior experience with vibrating screens, centrifugal slurry pumps, conveyors and chutes.
  • Strong conceptual thinking and analytical focus
  • Excellent problem solving skills and continual improvement focus
  • Knowledge of relevant Mines legislations and regulations
  • Knowledge of computer management systems, including SAP
  • Great communication skill
  • Planning, organisational, budgeting, scheduling and coordination skills
