Chandler Macleod is currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Lawyer to join a leading Federal Government agency. This is an immediate start with a contract term of 12 months.

About the company:
Based in Sydney's CBD, this agency is tasked with implementing programs that work with and for all women, but particularly those who are at increased risk of online harm. These programs aim to empower Australian's to manage technology risks and abuse and to take control of their online experiences.

About the role:
The rapid pace of technological change and the emergence of new platforms and services including messaging apps, interactive games and live-streaming services has given rise to new ways for users to interact online and has created new risks. As a result, the Online Safety Act is currently being reformed to enhance the powers of the agency in order to boost protections for Australians and increase the responsibility on industry to keep their users safe online.

My client is currently looking for an experienced and self-motivated Senior Lawyer to join our dynamic legal and compliance team. The successful applicant will be pivotal in providing practical and robust advice on a range of complex and often novel legislation and regulatory frameworks.

You will respond to a variety of legal enquiries across fields as diverse as administrative law, privacy law, intellectual property, contract law, freedom of information and criminal law matters (in the context of online safety). You will also provide legal support for the investigation team's complaints handling processes and programs, as well as projects carried out by other areas of the agency.

You will prepare matters for AAT review or civil action as needed. You will also draft regulatory guidance material and be required to distil complex matters into clear briefing material. You will also provide advice on codes, standards and draft regulatory instruments as required.

The Ideal Candidate:
Our ideal candidate will have relevant legal experience and strong public policy and regulatory skills. You will be able to manage a diverse workload and deliver accurate legal advice under tight timeframes. They must have an ability to learn quickly, be proactive, resilient and manage multiple complex issues in a period of significant legislative reform.

You must have excellent communication skills and be comfortable forging and maintaining internal and external stakeholder relationships. They will work closely with all areas of agency and be able to simplify complex legal problems into concepts that can be easily understood.

This unique role is suited to a dynamic, passionate, and proactive senior lawyer who is a strong team player with an understanding of online safety issues.
