The Role:
The Senior Finance Officer is accountable under limited direction to undertake complex finance related work that is guided by legislation, policies, procedures, standards, methodologies and precedents. The position will perform various activities within one or more of the core finances functions of the Chief Financial Officer Division, that may include, financial accounting, management accounting, finance business partnering, financial analytics and scheme finance.

The position is a team membership position that may be required to perform work that involves team leadership with supervision or management responsibilities requiring the setting of priorities, managing workflows and outcomes of a finance team.

The position has reasonable autonomy and accountability to exercise both initiative and judgement to interpret relevant finance legislation, policy and standards in the application of practices and procedures to achieve a variety of finance outcomes.

The Senior Finance Officer will coordinate and assume responsibility to provide detailed advice and operational support in relation to complex finance issues and problems.

The Senior Finance Officer will have a considerable level of internal stakeholder contact in relation to complex, difficult or sensitive finance issues. It will be required to liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders in a representational role on behalf of the branch and the division.

What we are looking for:

Essential

  • Advance Microsoft Excel skills (including VBA)
  • Highly developed skills in data analysis and report development including experience in using data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau or SAS VA
  • Ability to interpret and transform data into presentable dashboards
  • Tertiary level qualifications in Accounting or equivalent academic specialisation meeting the academic entry requirements of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA), Certified Practising Accountants (CPA) Australia and/or Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) professional development programs
  • Possess (or be working towards) membership of CA, CPA or IPA together with relevant direct finance experience

Highly Desirable

  • Experience in a Business Intelligence / Business Analytics role
  • Experience in TM1
  • Experience in SAP
  • Experience in a Federal Government finance environment
  • Experience in SAS coding
  • Experience in SAS Visual Analytics
  • Experience in SAP Financial System Administration
