Key Responsibilities
  • Manage Commonwealth Government and other finance-related reporting requirements including Commonwealth Budget Management System (CBMS) input, responses to Departmental questions on notice, quarterly KPI reporting, preparation of financial data for the museum’s Annual Report, and other reporting as required.
  • Deliver the museum’s and foundation’s Year End Statutory Accounts, including interpretation of accounting standards (inc. fixed asset valuation/impairment testing and revenue recognition), implementation of commonwealth government accounting policies and practices, and external audit liaison with the ANAO.
  • Lead on the current accounting standard requirements and other technical accounting matters.
  • Manage external financial and risk reporting and compliance obligations, including various Commonwealth government requirements and taxation with the ATO (inc. GST; FBT; PAYG).
  • Manage finance system controls, processes and delegations to ensure they are up to date at all times; and play pivotal role in new financial ERP implementation.
  • Create new and/or ensure all finance policies are updated accordingly.
  • Develop and/or review business cases and other planning and delivery documents, to champion and support major projects and business initiatives.
  • Drive improvements in business performance, monitoring and design, including streamlining procedures and processes, system optimisation/replacement and greater coordination across the museum’s commercial and operation services and broader business.
Key Skills
  • At least three years’ experience in a similar role, managing an entity’s day to day finance function, and implementing an entity’s financial strategies and objectives.
  • Professional accounting qualification – Chartered Accountant (CA); Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) or equivalent as appropriate.
  • Proven financial and business acumen, including as it relates to developing strategic and operational plans, managing risk and driving business efficiency and improvement.
  • Technically strong with extensive knowledge of Australian accounting standards (particularly as they relate to not-for-profit and government entities) and taxation legislation (inc. GST; FBT; PAYG)
  • Broad experience and capability with a variety of financial software and other specialised applications, including demonstrated ability to undertake system optimisation, upgrade and/or replacement.
