The role:

We are currently inviting invitations for a Senior Economic Development Officer based close to the city.

This is a highly visible role that will see you leading the Economic Development and shaping the future though engagement with industry partners and the local business community.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Develop, review and implement the Economic Development plan including strategies, plans, programs, initiatives and projects.
  • Implement special projects as required as part of the Economic Development Strategy under the direction of the Manager of Economic Development and Place.
  • Compile and update economic data and trends, monitor and evaluate indicators, publish statistics and analyse economic activity.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Business Engagement framework and program.
  • Develop and deliver best practice targeted funding programs, capacity building programs and other initiatives to directly engage and support business.
  • Liaise with the business community to attract new businesses and assist existing businesses to be retained and expanded.
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships in the Economic Development and Business Engagement field.
  • Prepare reports for Council and Committees as required.
  • Compile and analyse data and prepare reports on Economic Development and Business Engagement initiatives.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in economics, commerce, project management or a related/allied field, and/or relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of economic development, and business development programs.
  • Demonstrated project management experience and skills.
  • Demonstrated high quality written communication skills including report writing in a government setting.
  • High quality communications skills including presentations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including conflict resolution, relationship building and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in consulting with government agencies, business groups and the community.
  • Knowledge of local government desirable including the understanding of principles and legislative requirements of operations and community involvement
