Our Federal Government Client is seeking to engage an APS6 level Senior Media Officer on a contract for 12 months, with potential extension.

About the role:

In this role, you will work with internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of a range of media solutions and opportunities for the, and be responsible for developing media and other communications products to support the Agency's work.
Your experience in media relations will allow you to provide advice, support, and direction to others within the Agency regarding media. You will be an effective, innovative thinker who builds trust and respect and relishes the challenge of operating in a complex and changing environment. Your skills will be complemented by sound judgment, resilience, and integrity.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Proactively seeking opportunities to strategically promote the Scheme, with a particular focus on seeking individual stories relating to positive outcomes resulting from the Agency for pitching to media outlets.
  • Developing media plans to support Agency announcements and media opportunities.
  • Producing media and other communications products, including media releases and talking points, to support the Agency
  • Support in monitoring and identifying potential media risks.
  • Helping to manage and respond to reactive media enquiries, being the first point of contact for media on occasion, including some weekend on-call duties.
  • Liaising with internal stakeholders across the Agency to assist in ensuring their media needs are understood and met.
  • Supporting the delivery of on-the-ground media engagement and public relations activities.
  • Managing competing priorities, following relevant processes, solving problems, and tracking and recording progress against agreed deadlines, requirements, and operational goals.
  • Promoting workplace practices consistent with agency policy and in accordance with APS values and leadership behaviours.

Our Ideal Candidate will have:

  • A high level of media experience and skills
  • Relative qualifications in the Media and Marketing Space
  • Experience in using the media to communicate an organisation's messages
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to produce a range of high-quality media materials, including media releases, while working to tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and influencing skills, including the ability to build and sustain effective relationships with colleagues, senior managers, and a wide range of stakeholders
  • Ability to work constructively with others in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Broad understanding of the disability sector. Lived experience with disability is desirable.
