An exciting opportunity now exists with a Local Government department in Bellingen for a self-driven and experienced Senior Accountant. You will be responsible for overseeing the integrity of financial and accounting system and financial reporting processes, providing key financial and business analysis internally to facilitate improved business performance.
 
Why the team needs you
  • Prepare annual financial statements (and regular reviews) in consultation with the CFO and submit to relevant bodies in accordance with statutory requirements, relevant codes, practices and standards.
  • Administer reserves schedule and loans portfolio in accordance with policies and regulatory requirements and provide regular reports including on areas of risk.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of investments and make recommendations to enable optimal returns within guidelines and benchmarks.
  • Prepare, or supervise the preparation of, and lodge statutory and non-statutory financial returns, including BAS, GST and FBT returns, to ensure compliance obligations are met.

To be successful in this role you will possess
  • Degree qualification in Accounting, Commerce, or related field.
  • Knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards.
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and reconcile financial data.
  • Proven ability to coordinate and deliver on financial accounting projects or outcomes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial and accounting software applications.
  • Advanced computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel.
