Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS6 Scientific Evaluator on a contract for 6 months with potential extension.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Specific duties of the OTCMES Scientific Evaluator include:

  • Evaluating quality, safety and efficacy data to a high standard, and preparing recommendations, for the approval of applications for the registration of new, or variations to existing, OTC medicines in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG);
  • Communicating and making recommendations that are based on professional judgement, and evaluating risks in the context of a complex and changing environment;
  • Providing assistance with, and drafting, technical and scientific recommendations, reports and guidelines;
  • Liaising, engaging and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders on the regulation of OTC medicines, including preparing correspondence for industry;
  • Providing scientific advice on the regulation of OTC medicines to support the functions of the COMB;
  • Assisting with the streamlining of applications to ensure efficient processes within applicable timelines;
  • Contributing to team goals and broader organisational objectives by undertaking additional project work and tasks as required;
  • Work independently and as part of a team; and
  • Maintaining specialist technical knowledge and continuing to develop knowledge and expertise.

Skills & Experience:

Candidates must be able to demonstrate:


  • A degree in pharmacy, pharmacology, chemistry/biochemistry, biology, or in another relevant science from an Australian tertiary institution, or comparable overseas qualifications.


  • Knowledge of and experience in the regulation of therapeutic goods.
  • Experience in scientific evaluation of medicine efficacy, safety or quality.
  • Understanding of TGA guidelines (e.g. Australian Regulatory Guidelines for OTC Medicines).
