Our client is seeking to engage a Payroll Specialist on a contract for 12 months.

Position Overview

Manage the execution of payrolls for designated business areas as well as act as subject matter expert on payroll tax, superannuation and terms and conditions of employment for designated business areas.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support Payroll Administrator(s) with any queries in relation to inputs/administration for payrolls of designated business areas and provide proactive guidance where required.
  • Accurate and timely execution of payrolls including:
    • System process steps
    • Variance checking and investigation
    • Reporting
    • Payslip review
    • Banking & first approval
    • Post banking activities (Superannuation etc)
  • Manages risk and compliance for payroll areas by owning the Process Workbench process, troubleshooting to ensure accuracy and proactively identifying issues and risks.
  • Act as SME on payroll data (including SAP, WFM, TMW, myHR) and deliver any necessary earnings reporting for designated business areas including but not limited to:
    • Workers compensation
    • Payroll tax
    • Superannuation
  • Delivery quality customer service balanced against efficiency and compliance requirements
    • Support the payroll administrator(s) in responding to escalated incomplete Take Actions, enquiries, complaints, issues etc and proactively resolve larger problems in a structured manner:
      • Problem identification and articulation
      • Investigation of root cause
      • Identification of solution for immediate problem and/or for any process issue or systemic problem.
      • Liaison with Payroll Manager and/or relevant business manager for close out of problem
      • Communicate with impacted employee/managers where relevant
      • Coach/mentor payroll administrator(s) and colleagues to understand solution and create learning opportunities for team
    • Timely utilisation of Case Tracker (salesforce) tool to capture actions for reporting, future reference, knowledge management etc.
    • Act as subject matter expert in relation to calculation of salary and allowances; leave entitlements; tax and superannuation application; employment legislation and any other terms of employment for identified payroll areas.
    • Draft communications and consider approach to communicating system issues to relevant parties as appropriate.
  • Support system configuration and testing for designated business area:
    • Support the Business Analyst and/or HRA in the articulation of configuration change requirements
    • Provide input to the Business Analyst in relation to testing plans
    • Execute testing plans to support any Payroll system configuration changes
  • Drive for Efficiency
    • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of payroll activity/processes to drive for ongoing improvements to efficiency across Payroll (either in own payroll areas or others).
  • Other (will differ per payroll officer however each Payroll Officer must have ability to provide backup on each activity)
    • Calculation of Director's fees and payments
    • Administration of superannuation Adjustments
    • Management of Singapore Payroll Provider relationship and processes
    • WFM/SAP upload/download process execution and rectification of problems
    • Run Financial year end processes plus reconciliation of payrolls
    • Other items as required/directed by the Payroll Manager

Our Ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven working understanding of Australian payroll, statutory and legislative provisions
  • Ability to interpret pay, leave and allowances clauses in enterprise agreements
  • Specialist knowledge of HR / Payroll systems (specifically SAP HR/Payroll), combined with the ability to use applications in the Microsoft Office Suite (Project, Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint) with at least solid intermediate level (able to create and run macros) of Excel ability. Able to run ad hoc reports.
