Chandler Macleod is working with a leading Local Government organisation based in Bellingen who currently have an exciting employment opportunity for an experienced Safety Officer. This role provides professional advice, coaching and support through a partnership approach with management and employees. You will be responsible for implementing and managing the overarching safety management system within the organisation ensuring consultation and collaboration with all stakeholders and staff.

Major duties and responsibilities:
  • Implement, manage, and maintain the integrated Work Health and Safety Management System ensuring systematic review of content, processes, and systems to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and undertake regular audits related to the performance and effectiveness of the integrated work health and safety management system to ensure compliance with the Act and the promotion of a safe place of work.
  • Research and develop policies and procedures related to workplace health and safety, employee wellbeing and workers compensation to ensure current best practice is in place across the organisation.
  • Develop and oversee implementation of a corporate health and safety plan that incorporates programs to proactively address workplace risks and support employee health and wellbeing.
  • Oversee the investigation of all accidents and incidents to ensure appropriate corrective actions are identified and initiated to prevent recurrence.
Essential requirements:
  • Diploma (or higher) qualification in a relevant discipline such as work health and safety or health science
  • A minimum of 4 years' prior experience in a safety role
  • Experience in interpreting and implementing the requirements outlined in the WHS Act and Regulation and the Workers Compensation and Injury Management Act
  • Accredited Return to Work Coordinator
