Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS6 Regulatory Scientist on a contract for 9 months.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Specific duties include:

  • Assessing applications for the scheduling of substances in line with the Scheduling Policy Framework for medicines and chemicals and applicable legislation by utilising scientific and regulatory knowledge and expertise.
  • Provide timely, high quality, accurate scientific, technical and regulatory advice on issues relating to the scheduling of medicines and chemicals to support the functions of the Advisory Committees on Medicines and Chemicals Scheduling.
  • Assisting internal and external stakeholders with advice on complex operational and administrative matters, maintaining productive working relationships and representing the department in meetings and at conferences as required.
  • Ensure scheduling activities are conducted in accordance with applicable regulations, legislated timeframes and government record keeping requirements.
  • Preparation of briefings and parliamentary documents on complex and/or sensitive issues.
  • Participate in and lead activities that support the business operations of the section by participating in meetings and discussions regarding policy development, risk management, continuous improvement, annual business planning and reporting or other matters as requested.

Mandatory Requirements:

Candidates must be able to demonstrate:

  • Good communications skills, including solid oral and written communication skills and the ability to assist with drafting clearly articulated reports and briefs on the subject matter
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills including risk identification and mitigation
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to be an effective team member and contribute to the team objectives
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
  • Good planning and organisational skills, including ability to meet deadlines and managing competing priorities

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Degree from an Australian Tertiary Institute or equivalent overseas qualification in a science, biomedical science or pharmacy discipline (or related field).
  • Qualifications should be relevant to the assessment of medicines or chemicals for scheduling
