Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a Project Officer on a contract for 12 months.

About the Role:

Project Support professionals support the Project Manager. They monitor project schedules and budgets, prepare progress reports, and liaise with key stakeholders.

Project Officers provide high-level procedural, administrative and operational support to a work area to support the delivery of the agency's projects.

Working under the general direction of senior staff, they play a role in maintaining relationships with other project teams, and stakeholders to provide advice and ensure the consistent delivery of project outputs.

Key duties/tasks

Duties may include some or all of the following:

  • assist in project management and coordination activities
  • contribute to the development and management of project plans and schedules in accordance with the agency's project management framework
  • contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement
  • assist with the mentoring of and training of new staff to build knowledge and capability
  • provide advice, procedural guidance and technical expertise in specific areas of project work
  • perform research work and analysis including contributing to the preparation of reports on relevant project activities
  • contribute to regular project reporting including status updates and exception reports
  • draft a range of written material including business cases, plans, executive briefs and corporate documentation for review by senior staff
  • assist with monitoring project budgets, review and report on expenditure and assist with procurement and contract management
  • assist with the identification and management of project risks, issues and benefits
  • assist with project quality management to ensure that project deliverables are fit for purpose and meet client needs
  • support and maintain stakeholder relationships to support the delivery of projects
  • represent the team or work area at meetings and forums
  • exercise delegations appropriate to role in accordance with legislation and guidelines

Knowledge required

Knowledge and understanding of:

  • project and programme management frameworks and policies
  • the programmes and services administered by the agency
  • relevant service models, including the agency's Service Delivery Operating Model
  • legislation, policies, procedures and information management requirements relevant to the
  • work area
  • relevant business systems and tools
  • the agency's privacy, ethics, workplace health and safety and security protocols.
