Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS4-5 Project Officer on a contract for 6 months with potential extension.

About the Role:

The role may suit a person across the APS 4/5 levels. The individual does not need a background in government relations or advocacy. An interest in competition, consumer protection, regulatory, product safety or small business matters may be helpful.

Skills and attributes sought:

Important skills / attributes the ideal candidate will contribute will include:

  • Analytical skills - the ability to distil complex information down in to simple concepts
  • Written communication skills - well developed written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas through well thought out and structured writing. The ability to make a compelling evidence-based argument
  • Verbal communication skills - the ability to confidently deliver / introduce papers to boards and committees comprising senior decision makers.
  • Confidence - a self-starter with confidence to ask questions, ask for help when necessary and learn through others in a fast paced and dynamic environment.

Work will include, as part of a small team:

  • Assisting with the drafting of submissions to Government
  • Assisting with the briefing Commissioners and senior staff about competition, consumer protection, regulatory, product safety or small business issues
  • Assisting with preparation of papers for consideration by senior executives
  • Assisting with Executive Office administration

Candidate do not have to have any formal training or previous experience in government relations or advocacy.

A recent law, public policy, economics, social sciences or arts graduate would most likely have these skills. This is also great opportunity for a recent law/economics graduate.
