The Opportunity

Chandler Macleod is looking to engage a Project Engineer - Motorway Systems Engineer for a contract term of 6 months + potential extension with a well-established NSW Government department. This role will be based in Sydney CBD with flexible working arrangements on offer.


The role oversees the technical management and delivery of Mechanical and Electrical Control System (MES) works (including ITS) for motorway projects during design, construction and OM stages of the asset lifecycle. The role ensures that Systems perform and projects are delivered in accordance with time, cost, quality and scope requirements to meet Government objectives by striving for best practice in projects' scope and technical criteria development, consultant administration, design and construction review, quality assurance, and operations / maintenance activities. The role works in a team environment with stakeholders to achieve organisational goals and to resolve any issues, difficulties and impediments raised.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide Subject Matter Expert advice for electrical and mechanical control systems to the project teams.
  • Undertake forward strategic planning and technical criteria development to ensure scalable motorway systems. Role Description Project Manager Motorway Systems 2.
  • Motivate, encourage and inspire the development of a strong, effective, efficient, ethical and professional team with a clear focus on the delivery of planned outcomes and the continual development of the capabilities and capacities of the individual team members.
  • Review and maintain the technical content of engineering and technical design documentation, procurement documents, inspection and test plans, and independent certification documentation.
  • Develop collaborative relationships between the motorway operator, government, private developers and other stakeholders and facilitate effective resolution of issues and information exchange to meet customer expectations.
  • Ensure adherence to Transport strategies, procedures, guidelines, processes and practices to achieve a high level of WHS, environmental management and quality on all projects.
  • Manage the team contribution to business plans, budgets and risk management plans, consistent with overall Division and Corporate Plans, control costs, review and improve business systems and processes, and report, as required, on activities, performance, trends and issues.

    Key Challenges
  • Establishing effective teams and relationships with motorway partners within the framework of complex contractual and concessionaire deeds.
  • Providing relevant and accurate specialist / technical information to enable others to make appropriate, accurate and informed decisions.
  • Managing complex projects that require leadership and negotiating solutions.
Experience Needed
  • Four year engineering degree in an Electrical or Computer Systems or other relevant discipline from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Sound knowledge of electrical engineering processes and application to the design, construction and operation of complex multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing high level specialist engineering and technical advice, including assuring the technical competence of staff and contractors.
