Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS6 Project Manager on a contract for 8 months.

About the Role:

The department requires an experienced professional/project manager to establish and lead a new Working Group, which will be responsible for designing and implementing data collection methodologies and reporting processes for new performance measures that have been developed for our regulatory function (environment approvals under the EPBC Act).

The successful candidate will be an experienced project manager/appropriately skilled professional who can lead the development of an implementation plan for our new Performance Framework. The role involves working closely with relevant staff/data owners across the department and ensuring that data collection scope and methodologies are established to enable reporting on our new performance measures from July 2022. These include measures on environmental outcomes, cultural and economic benefits realised, and stakeholder satisfaction as an environmental regulator.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The key duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Secretariat/leadership role for a new Working Group, made up of Executive Level staff across the Division/department.
  • Organising and booking Working Group meetings, preparing the agenda and leading discussions.
  • Developing a detailed implementation plan for our new Performance Framework - ensuring that detailed data collection methodologies are established for all new performance measures, targets are confirmed and processes are put in place to enable the data leads to collect data and report on the new measures.
  • Working with others to develop solutions to complex problems relating to data collection, information gathering, data analysis and reporting.
  • Administrative duties to support the work of the section, including organisation of meetings, record keeping and maintenance of project management documents.

The specific skills required are:

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and quickly build productive working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify issues and risks, propose solutions and contribute to business process improvement.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated analytical and research skills.
  • Demonstrated written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated organisation and planning skills, including ability to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Experience in environmental regulation and/or environment assessment is desirable (but not essential).
  • Experience in data analytics and performance reporting is desirable.
