Project Cost Controller


About the Role

As Project Cost Controller you will be responsible for responsible for tracking, analysing and controlling the costs associated with planned Major Outages. The Project Cost Controller will work collaboratively and in a supportive function with the Outage manager to successfully control the project's finances. This includes the provision of cost control system design, data entry, analysis of data, estimation, governance & reporting. The Outage Cost Controller is responsible for finance applications, forecasting expenditures, planning budgets, classifying costs, tracking man-hours, verifying supplier invoices and managing change events that impact the project budget

  • Qualifications, key skills and experience relevant to role
  • Strong commitment to workplace health, safety and environment. Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Proven skill in communicating clear and accurate information to individuals and groups.
  • Tertiary qualifications in accounting/finance, a relevant engineering discipline, Trade or Advanced Diploma (TAFE), Quantity Surveying, Project Management or relevant industry experience.
  • Advanced Excel capability and strong computer skills are essential
  • An ability to maintain quality of data through liaising with the outage and contractor teams and resource providers.
  • Good analytical and conceptual skills with high attention to detail


Your responsibilities will include:

  • In collaboration with Stakeholders and the Outage Manager, forecasting expenditures, planning budgets, classifying costs, tracking man-hours, verifying supplier invoices and managing change events that impact the project budget & closeout of major outage financial reporting.
  • Reporting as required including budgets, actual costs, variations, forecasts, budget risks, KPI's, dashboards etc.
  • Outage Close Out Reconciliation and Financial Reports are completed and filed on the shared Drive
  • Assisting in the preparation of business cases including cost benefit analyses for all projects
  • Ensuring external resources comply with AGL's cost control policy framework.
  • Delivering projects within budget within the governance framework
  • Successful completion of the approved annual project plans
  • Managing and overseeing all aspects of project cost control.
  • Developing and maintaining budgeting and reporting systems for the cost control of projects.
  • Ensuring that all Health, Safety and Environment Systems and goals are introduced and adhered to while meeting the organisations policies and standards for HSE Management.
