Job Description

Reporting to the Manager Production Technology Category Management, the Procurement Specialist performs a principal role by providing domain category expertise in ensuring the business's supply needs strategically match with the market. This key position holds responsibility for supplier management and development as well as contract administration and engages with the team to track and monitor performance targets of optimal cost of ownership and surety of supply.

Core Accountabilities

  • Leads the development of innovative, value-driven multi-year category strategies
  • Coordinates gathering of market intelligence and analysis by the team as input into category strategies
  • Develops strong relationships with internal business leaders and key stakeholders to understand business objectives and translate these into Supply needs
  • Monitors application of Supply category management processes within the team to support compliance with Group Level Documents (GLD), SOX and other requirements
  • Leads the development, in conjunction with Principals and Specialists, of a sourcing plan aligned with category
  • Works collaboratively with stakeholders and challenges appropriately to develop sourcing strategies and supply solutions that balance stakeholder needs, productivity, commercial value and risk
  • Builds compelling cases for change supporting sourcing initiatives and influences stakeholders and supply market to implement change
  • Ensures that the team implements sourcing projects on-time and in accordance with the plan, thereby minimising disruption to the business
  • Leads adoption of innovative sourcing techniques within the team such as "clean sheeting", e-auctions and TCO
  • Executes higher value and higher criticality strategic sourcing projects and provides coaching and guidance to Principals and Specialists on sourcing projects and processes
  • Supports Principals and Specialists in supplier negotiations and leads higher value, more critical negotiations
  • Reviews market engagement strategies, negotiation plans and contract award recommendations
  • Reviews and approves contracts
  • Ensures capture of productivity improvements supporting measurement of team performance
  • Identifies key suppliers in responsible sub-categories and determines appropriate supplier management regime
  • Develops relationships with identified key suppliers and works with the business to design performance measures and track and manage performance for selected key suppliers against contract and business requirements

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience (Resources) with a focus on category management
  • Possesses exceptional commercial acumen, demonstrated through experience in sourcing and ongoing management of high-value agreements above USD 50M.
  • Competency (commercial, technical) in specified category and end-to-end category management
  • Deep understanding of sourcing techniques and strategies and knowledge of innovative sourcing methodologies such as TCO, "clean-sheeting", e-auctions
  • A comprehensive understanding of production technology, which supports the discovery, extraction, processing, transportation and selling of resources to customers
  • Deeply familiar with markets and suppliers relating to manufacturing/logistics/operations platforms, control/automation systems, machine-to-machine networks and sensor/actuator infrastructure within the mining and oil and gas industries
  • A comprehensive understanding of the concepts captured within ANSI/ISA-95 within the context of the resources industry
  • Significant experience in leading the end-to-end Source to Contract process across a number of sub-categories within Production Technology
  • Proven results in delivering recognised value and improving processes through influencing
  • Ability to effectively work in a team (cross functional)
  • Proven ability to influence across functions
  • Strong negotiation experience
  • Ability to analyse complex business processes, risk factors and control systems

  • Experience with ERP systems and Sourcing tools - Ariba, Bravo
