We seek an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer for an exciting opportunity with our client, an established Australian brand in the quarry industry based in Cohuna.
Reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing and understanding current and future production, processing and plant needs, including developing concepts and design scope for quarry plant upgrades, renewal of existing plants, and green field plant designs.
The candidate will receive relevant support from quarry management, resource development, sales and engineering departments to be successful in the role.

Reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing and understanding current and future production, processing and plant needs, including developing concepts and design scope for quarry plant upgrades, renewal of existing plants, and green field plant designs.
The candidate will receive relevant support from quarry management, resource development, sales and engineering departments to be successful in the role.
Responsibilities:
- Consult with relevant production, marketing and finance managers and guide project teams towards safe and efficient new and upgraded plant design solutions.
- Assess and report on current and future Quarry Division production capabilities across the business.
- Assess, measure, and obtain relevant information on the planning requirements of nominated projects.
- Utilise plant production analysis software, e.g., Aggflow, Bruno, or equivalent, to assess and verify desired production outcomes.
- Incorporate latest quarry plant design and techniques to meet and exceed industry standards.
- Compile and report at high level, cost benefit analysis and budget costings for assigned projects.
- Liaise with the engineering department, to design, build, and commission plant upgrades and greenfield projects, throughout client’ business.
- Manage priorities and schedules in conjunction with project engineer and operations manager to ensure department objectives are met.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant State and Federal legislation
Safety, Health and Environment
- Maintain a safe system of work in the workplace. Comply with all relevant safety and health legislation.
- Aim to achieve safety targets and ensure acceptance and implementation of the Safety standard and objectives
- Assist management of the daily financial activities of the Plant Design Division.
- Ensure that operational costs are managed in line with agreed budget limits.
- Achieve departmental budget targets.
- Co-ordinate budgets and expenditures with the Engineering & Design Manager, Operations Manager - Quarries and General Manager – Quarries.
Qualification, skills and experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in an Engineering discipline or Trade qualified
- + 10 years of demonstrated solid experience in the extractive industry
- + 5 years’ experience working on multidiscipline engineering projects
- Working knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and codes pertinent to the mechanical engineering discipline and quarry industry
- Experience in Solidworks
- Strong stakeholder management skills with a “Can Do Attitude.”
- Strategic mindset with the ability to multitask.
- Developed financial/commercial acumen
- Excellent Communication (verbal and written)
- Willingness to travel across regional work sites
- Full working rights in Australia.
