Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS6 Policy Officer on a contract until June 2021, with potential extensions of 2X 6 months.

Position Overview

Working closely with the Strategic Policy manager and a team of policy officers, your strong written and communication skills and ability to effectively collaborate and interact with internal and external stakeholders will enable you to effectively contribute to a range of policy development initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Developing policy advice and position papers
  • Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, including working collaboratively to develop clear and concise advice for the senior executive, governance bodies and the Minister for Resources, Water and Northern Australia
  • Working closely with teams within the client to meet project goals and outcomes
  • Preparation of materials to assist with parliamentary processes
  • Preparation of a wide range of materials as required including briefings, talking points, meeting papers, senate estimates input, Q&As

Our Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Strong written skills and ability to deliver high quality work including policy position papers, talking points, briefings and other products as required
  • Strong communication skills, including communicating sensitively and collaborating effectively with stakeholders including staff, departmental executive and representatives of other departments
  • Experience in policy development
  • Ability to lead discreet projects of work
  • Work fluidly in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Resilient and able to manage competing priorities, and time critical processes
  • Desirable but not essential; knowledge and/or experience in developing legislation and associated materials

Mandatory Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will be required to have a Baseline clearance.
