Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS6 Policy Officer on a contract for 3-6 months with potential extension.

About the Role:

The agency undertakes and manages environmental assessments in Australia's marine environment under the Environment Protection (Sea Dumping) Act 1981 (the Act) and takes the lead for Australia in the administration of the 1996 London Protocol to the Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matter, 1972 (the London Protocol). The Act implements Australia's international obligations under the London Protocol to prevent marine pollution by dumping of wastes and other matter.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The department requires a Policy Officer to work with a Senior Policy Officer developing policy on a range of emerging issues within the marine regulated space. This work is envisaged to include:

  • Research into relevant subject matter
  • Internal and external stakeholder engagement and consultation
  • Drafting of associated written documents, including policy, briefings and other associated guidance material
  • Assisting in procuring external consultant advice and literature reviews
  • Producing project plans, budgets and schedules.

Candidates would be expected to have a background in policy development, governance and a technical background in the oil and gas industry and/or marine environment. Strong written skills, analysis and communication skills would also be required.
